Let's Dish With Linda Lou

Sharing My Recipes, My Life, And The Food Tale Of Two Cities

Spending Time Outdoors

I’ve been Spending Time Outdoors quite a bit lately. As you can tell from the picture above and those below I’ve been working pretty hard. I refurbished my Adirondack chairs. Big difference right?

Living in Florida, we’re known for our rainy season. Over time, the ground settles and the weather takes its toll on the furniture.

After finally finishing the chairs I noticed how bad the stones had become. I cleaned and leveled the patio concrete step stones, they were a mess.

Between the two pictures above and the one below, I added a couple of new bird feeders and removed a couple of trees that were in really bad shape. I’m thinking, this looks much better.

Bird Feeder

My bird feeder gets a lot of action from the neighborhood Cardinals. To the right of the bird feeder are my Hydrangeas. This picture was taken during the summer when everything’s a beautiful vibrant green.

A wrought iron bistro set brings a little charm to this part of the yard.

Ok, now this is Steve’s shed, I can’t do anything about the inside but I can sure help the outside a little. Placing a couple of small bushes and solar lights on each side. Filling those areas with the accents of white pebble stones. Finally, bordering each side with a mini garden fence.

I love Hibiscus but it just so happens so do the squirrels.

The Dwarf Boxwood Shrubs add a touch of green to the side of our driveway. As they grow they can be trimmed and shaped into the style of small box-like bushes.

My Comfortable Place is in the front carport area with beautiful flowers all around me. I spend a lot of time out here. Oh, and of course MyΒ Organic Hanging Herb Garden.

Spring Time Outdoors

Spring Flowers

Spring Flowers and Lavender

Lavender and Cinquefoil (from the rose family) always add a spring touch.

My Hanging Herb Garden

Rain Lillies

Aside from cooking and entertaining, I love flowers and herbs. Early spring, especially, is the time where beautiful flowers are available. Let me show you what I’ve been up to so far. Above are my rain Lilies. They bloom during the summer rainy season.

Bird Feeder

Having Jasmine grow up a bird feeder with its little star-shaped white flowers begin to bloom. Their fragrance fills up the yard with such a beautiful aroma. I also want to say, checking the zone (climate area etc..) in which what plants or flowers will thrive is really important. I always try to Google the name of the plant or flower to seek the information first.

Hass Avocado Tree.jpg

This Haas avocado tree is really an experiment for me. I planted this pit from the avocado and this is what has happened so far. They say that the avocado tree grows very slowly, and I guess I’ll just have to be patient.

Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are definitely my favorite flower. Their beautiful large blooms and deep green leaves add so much color to my backyard,

Planting flowers or plants and watching them blossom and grow is an amazing feeling.

Periwinkles

Changing up your accessories for the season can give you whole new look. My lavender is growing so fast and the aroma fills up my “comfortable place”.

English Ivy

Just a few seasonal changes can make such a big difference. My next project is new patio furniture and a couple of new grills. I can see outdoor cooking videos in my future!

Spathiphyllum

While sitting in my rocking chair, I had a thought. I decided to challenge myself to use each one of my herbs to make really easy and delicious dishes.

Rosemary

My rosemary plant is out back in a different garden. Rosemary. is a much hardier herb and grows to be quite large. Planting the Rosemary in the ground only made sense.

Sweet Basil (2)

Sage

Oregano

English Lavender

Mint

Chives

Flat Leaf Italian Parsley

Starting soon, I’ll be profiling each of these herbs and incorporate them into a main or side dish. Fresh herbs bring so much flavor and to any recipe. They give the dish a gourmet touch. Well, I better get started on my first dish! Happy Cooking!

Seasonal Flowers, Herbs, And Plants

Periwinkles (2)

hanging-herb-garden

Whenever I set up any type of garden display, I make sure they’re always presented in odd numbers. As you can see I have three barrels set pretty close together using the same color pallet. Here they range from pink to red. I also you the same method whenever I set a table. I use odd amounts of candles, fruit displays, flowers, or herbs on the table. Β Set along the side of the carport, I have my hanging herb garden.

Once the rocking chairs, side table, and outdoor carpet arrive, I hope to transport this carport into a beautiful sitting area.

Sunflowers.jpg

On the side of my house, set behind the rain lilies, I planted three sunflowers. In the backyard, my Fig Tree, Eggplant Plant, and Chives are doing just great! Β It’s an amazing feeling to see your garden plants, trees, and herbs thrive!!!
