The Parker House roll has stood the test of time and that’s because it’s just delicious. I love bread, it’s definitely my biggest weakness. Now there are probably recipes out there for these scrumptious little bites of doughy goodness, but who has the time during the week when you need to get dinner on the table. I like to have my evening free so I can catch up on some of my favorite shows before having to get ready for the next work day. Someone has come up with a recipe that’s in the freezer section of your grocery store. They have managed to take all that work out of your hands. Listen, I love making things from scratch as much as the next person, but sometimes there not enough hours in the day with our lives being so busy. I don’t mind taking help from the store whenever I can. Now I do like to make them a bit more special with my flavored butter that gets brushed on top of these gems. I melt 1/2 a stick of unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of fresh chopped rosemary ( that I add in after the butter has come off the heat), 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and just a pinch of salt. All you have to do for these rolls is place them into a pan, and inch or so apart. cover them with a tea towel and let them sit in a warm place for a least 3-4 hours. Now I know that sounds like a long time, but there are a couple of ways to get around this. First do this before you leave for your day and when you come home they will be ready to pop into the oven at 375 for 10-14 minutes. Second, put your oven, and preheat the oven on the lowest setting you have. Mine is ‘warm” about 180 degrees, then turn it off and place the pan or pans of rolls into the oven, and cover them with a tea towel. They will proof in a little over, half the time. When they come out of the oven and are piping hot, brush some of that buttery goodness all over the tops of the rolls. If you’ve never had a Parker roll, you’ve got to try them, just sayin’.
